I have been in Williamsport, PA for about the last 25 years where I work as a Band Director. I originally came from Middletown, PA (near Harrisburg) and am the son of Samuel W. Dugan, who was from Highspire (also near Harrisburg). My grandfather was Samuel C. Dugan, also of Highspire. As far as I know the two Samuels are my only two Dugan relatives, but you never know! I'm looking forward to hearing from you via E-mail. Subj: Re: Duggan Family Date: 95-03-13 18:10:22 EST From: TwoHuskers To: LYMAN DUGG I just read the two notes that you had sent to me, including the one from JTDugan, I believe. In that note, he said that one of his realtives had removed the second "G" when he left Ireland. That was the way that my Grandpa explained it to me, also. I have no "real" family tree, but I do have a couple of names that someone might recognize. My grandfather was Bert L. Dugan, originally from Bell Plaine, Kansas. His father was Wiliam R. Dugan, jr.. Of course, his father was William R. Dugan, sr.. I have no further records on his side. My grandmothers side originates back in Bristol, England. Her grandfather was Henry Bodenner. On my mother's side, her great-grandfather came from Switzerland. That's about all I know. If it rings any bells with anyone, I'd be glad to talk to them. JKD P.S. I agree with JTDugan's profile...."Hate is NOT a family value" Screen Name: TwoHuskers Member Name: J.K. JKD Thanks for your email. You have my fathers initials, he was Jacob Keir Duggan 1909-1994. His father was John Champion Duggan, Champion was his mothers last name. His father was Jacob Duggan and He also married a Champion named Ellen. Jacobs Father was John Duggan. We dont know where John came from and I have spent a lot ot time searching for information in the Records office in Prince Edward Island, Canada where we all lived. John may have come from Ireland. Were they all from Bell Plaine, Kansas? do you have any dates, born died etc, spouses, children etc. Were they Catholic? My family were of the Anglican Church (church of England) and rumors have it that John Duggan may have lived in England. Lyman Keir Duggan ....................................................................... . Subj: From a Dugan Date: 95-03-13 15:40:17 EST From: AppTrain To: LYMAN DUGG Lyman, me again (I asked for the newsletter also). I'd be very interested in whatever you have on the history of the Dugan/Duggan name. I'm woefully ignorant of my background. I've got a big Dugan family spread out all over the U.S. and Ireland. Maybe you've already contacted some of them. Thanks for whatever you can send! Patrick Dugan Glastonbury, Connecticut ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Subj: Re: Duggan Newsletter Date: 95-03-13 23:26:40 EST From: RDUGLAW To: LYMAN DUGG Thanks for your info on the Duggan/Dugan Newsletter. I would be very interested in receiving a copy. Dumb question...is this something you send via the US mail? If so, my address is 7329 Oliver Woods Dr SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. I am a 49 year old lawyer as you might guess from the AOL moniker I chose. Although my name is Robert J. Dugan, one "g" got removed by accident when my Canadian parents became US citizens. I guess I'm really a "Duggan" and not a "Dugan." My great grandparents were Arthur and Sarah Duggan who arrived in Canada from County Down, Ireland around late 1840's. Sarah's maiden name was Johnston. They had 3 daughters and 3 sons. My grandfather was John "Jack" Duggan, born in 1859, who was a farmer in Ontario, Canada. My Dad is also John "Jack" Dugan (he lost the "g"). He lives in Pontiac, Michigan and he is still living at the ripe old age of 86. I would be interested in knowing how to obtain information relating to the immigration of Arthur and Sarah to Canada. Is there someplace where such ancient immigration records are kept? Our city just got a branch of the Mormon geneaological library and I hope to visit to see what they offer. Thanks again for your e-mail and your work on the family name. Great to hear from you and thanks for all the information..Can you elaborate..dates..children..spouses etc? Well the Johns are all called Jack so far and I think they are starting to out number the Patricks! I found a Sarah but not your Sarah..From my notes I see there is a Joseph Duggan (1830-1915) that I cant find a connection to who married Mary Campbell. Children were Christopher who married Barbara Ann Champion, Sarah, Donald and Mary J. Do you know where Arthur and Sarah lived in Canada? There are lots of places to search but its nice to have a starting point. The newsletter is "on-line" via AOL and you should have all 3 issues by now...please confirm. Ive been having a lot of trouble with aol lately The Morman Library sounds interesting. I visited the genealogy center in Salt Lake City a few years ago but was not able to find much of interest. The Canadian provinces all have genealogy records which are usually 100 years old and more. The information they have is kept confidential for 100 years before it is released for public record. Grave information is public record and there are a lot of church records and microfilms of Newspapers going way way back more than 150 years. There is also census info. All provinces have geneology society volunteers who take info from newspapers etc and put names on cardfiles etc which makes it easy to find articles. I found an ancestor who was fined over a 100 years ago for selling spirituous liquers without licence. He was fined five pounds! Another Jack Duggan!!! The records showed that he got a license to run a Pub a few months later!! All in all I spent about 2 weeks in the Public Records building in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island last year. Often there were 30-40 people in there searching family records. Many had lap-top computers! I hope you will write to me again soon, Lyman Keir Duggan ....................................................................... LYMAN-The offer for 5 free surnames in exchange for GEDCOM expired quite some time ago. It is amazing that it is still on AOL. We would love to be able to continue this service but have just gotten overwhelmed trying to get all the data out to researchers. Sorry that this is still on AOL but there is no way to get it off. Patrica....I'm sure everyone will appreciate your information and I hope that you will make contact with some relatives because of this data. What program are you using for your family records? At some point, all these newsletters will be printed and placed in the Dugan/Duggan files in each Canadian province and they will probably make their way around the states too. They will be downloadable from AOL too. If everyone on the list could share like you did I'm sure that some surprising connections will be made. Thanks from all of us. Next Newsletter, I hope to share with a similiar list of my own. The newsletters have been building faster than I imagined. If they are much longer than this one, I have a lot of trouble sending them out on AOL. They get hung up part way through and I have to retry and retry. It takes more than an hour to send each one out to 170 people. It is as though my machine sends it out to each person individually. If things keep up, you will probably have another one in a few days! Any Artists in the family?? Could some one Corel Draw up a Duggan float for the AOL St. Patrick's Day Parade? Type keyword "FC" for family computing and follow the instructions. The 17th is really getting close! There are already quite a few floats! Check em out! .....end..nr4......
