Lyman Duggan ....................................................................... ... from a Duggan to 4 Genealogy Dugans What a difference a "G" makes. We have an extra "G" in our Duggan. I wonder why..Do you know? Your profile says you are interested in genealogy. There are a lot more onegeers than twogeers here on AOL. My Ancestors Settled in Eastern Canada in the early 1800's. When exactly we dont know and who came from Ireland? I am from Canada's smallest province (Prince Edward Island) There are two main Duggan families there. Both are twogeers. One is Catholic with a lot of Patricks One is of the Church of England (Anglican) with a lot of Johns Stories have it (no proof) that the Anglican Duggans lived in England for at least 2 generations after leaving Ireland. There are about 60 twogeers (Duggans) here on AOL and I decided to try and make contact with you onegeers who are interested in genealogy To many stories were never questioned or written down. Now the story tellers are dead. Now I'm writing things down. Do you have anything to share with us? Is there anything I can share with you...I wonder..I hope so! Do you 4 know each other? There are over 100 onegeers on AOL Would you like me to send you a copy of our on-line Duggan newsletter? Top o the morning to ya. Lyman Keir Duggan ....................................................................... ... If you have lost or erased your newsletter and want it back, just let me know and I will send it to you again! ....................................................................... ... St Patricks Day is on the 17th...AOL will have an Irish Parade with floats etc. Well actually they are just paintings or drawings and you can enter your own in a contest! There is quite a bit of art work there now that you can see and download too if you wish. Its a good time to learn how to view pictures on aol. At the Keyword prompt just type in "FC" and you will end up in the "family computing" area..the menu's will take you from there...Have fun! Lyman Duggan ....................................................................... ... Ok, St Patricks Day will soon be here and just what are you going to do? I'm going to an Irish Show at the local Arts Center and then to the pub for some song and green beer! How about some email after the 17th letting us know how it was for you. For those of you not going out for the evening, perhaps you could form a Duggan Chat Room at lets say 8PM Eastern Time...If no one shows up then close it down at 810 and open again at 9PM and again at 10PM. The west coasters will probably be on at the later times. I wish I could start it up myself but I will be out with my office staff whooping it up! ....................................................................... ... Dugan Coat of Arms and Certificate. Some years ago my Dad gave me a certificate with the Dugan Coat of Arms or Shield on it: The arms illustrated are described heraldically as quarterly 1 and 4 azure, a griffin's head couped or; 2 and 2 argent; Crest: A Talbot statant proper collared agent; and for Motto: "Buadh no bas". Writers in the past have attributed symbolism to the tinctures and charges of heraldry..thus, or (gold) is said to denote Generosity; argent (silver), Humility; azure (blue), Loyalty; whilst "proper" indicates natural colour. The Griffin signifies Vigilancy and the talbot, Courage and Vigilancy. The motto may be translated "To Conquer or Die" The Irish surname DUGAN or DUGGAN is and anglicisation of Gaelic O'Dubhagain "decendant of Dubhagan", the latter being a personal name (dubh "black"). The surname is associated mainly with Counties Cork, Tipperary and Waterford. Once everyone was known by a single name but this led to cofusion and so an extra name was adopted. Thus a man named Brian who claimed descent from one Dubhagan might be known as "Brian descendant of Dubhagan-or--Brian O' Dubhagain", the additional name eventually becoming hereditary as your surname. Duggan. John O'Dugan (died 1372) was co-author of "Topographical Poems" and author of a valuable work known as " The Tribes and Customs of Hy Many ". Patrick Duggan (1813-1896) was Bishop of Clonfert. Among early emigrants from Britain to America is John Dugen who is recorded in Virginia in 1662. Peter Duggan (1861) was an historian who attained some fame in America as an artist. Joseph Duganne (1823-1884) was an American poet and story writer. note: some time in the near future I will have this crest color scanned to a "gif" file so I can send it to you on-lline through AOL. I have a different crest on a gif file now that was sent to me by John Edward Duggan of Chicago and I can send it to anyone on line who wants it and has a "viewer program". There are quite a few "viewers" available free..I use "2-show also called CompuShow 2000" and I like it..I have a description of the program that I will send to anyone who asks me for it............Lyman Duggan ....................................................................... ... Okay Cousins...here's another Newsletter...hope you enjoyed it..and I hope to get lots of email so I can make up another one for you soon. It should be interesting to see what comes of contact with the "ONE GERS" or DUGANS!...Lets hear from you! All the best, Lyman Keir Duggan ........end.......nr 2..........
