Duggan Dugan Family Newsletter nr 10.......5 June 1995 Our tenth issue...its hard to believe...this will be the last till probably November as I'll be in Canada. This gives you lots of time to compile your family history and give it to me for issue 11. Issue 10 is so big that I cant send it all to you. Bob Duggan has contributed 2500 names from his family. I have added these to this issue and will place it in aol archives for you as part of "Duggan newsletters 7-10" to download if you wish. More on this in the next issue Running the newsletter gets confusing to me at times and I might forget to include information now and then..If you notice, please let me know. There are over 200 of you to talk to now and nothing is on paper...I tried to print out the letter but its miles long now. I tried one of those genealogy services thinking I would gets lots of information on disk but all i got were Diggins for my ten bucks. Nothing ventured, nothing gained! Welcome to our cousins on Prodigy!! I will try to get our back issues in Prodigy archives soon. Subj: Re: Newsletter 7 a,b Date: 95-04-04 01:28:12 EDT From: JDuggan01 To: lyman@duggan-family.org Hi Lyman, I'm James Russell Duggan of Riverside, California. I've traced my family to arrival in New York harbor May 23, 1837. Mother Mary Dugan age 44 had several sons in tow, including Laughlin, John, twins James and Joseph, and Phillip (will furnish their ages upon request. Family tradition holds that the second "G" was concealed by the family until later for fear the authorities were after them. I think this may be related to the Robert Emmett rebellion in Ireland. I have additional info about this family in New York City to 1850. My linkage to the present comes from James (moved to Port Henry, New York, and probably died in Civil War), family then went to Colorado (Lake City 1882). Grandson William Edgar Duggan moved his family to Idaho in 1910, then to Long Beach, California in 1925. I am William Edgar Duggan's grandson (the only one bearing the family name in the current generation. But, I have four sons. Keep up the good work. I'll be looking forward to your newsletters. From: HXHN13A@prodigy.com (MR JAMES DUGGAN) To: lymandugg@AOL.COM Please add me to your mailing list. Our branch of the family is descended from a family in Carmarthen in the south of Wales. Two brothers emigrated to Bradford County PA, the first in the 1850's, the second, James, in 1863. I have good records for the line from about 1815. I hope to be able to identify some of the family members who moved west and were lost to my view. ................................................... ................... ........ ..................... I made a careless error. The name is HERBERT Dugan and not Henry Dugan. I apologize for any inconvenience. Date: 95-04-23 22:25:06 EDT From: VPearl To: lyman@duggan-family.org Thank you so much for including me in the Dugan family newsletter. I am currently researching my husband's lines. I was fortunate to connect to a distant cousin in Texas that has researched his paternal lineage to the 1600's. I hope to be as lucky with the Dugan line, here. I am searching for the following individual: Nancy Emaline Dugan born: 19 April 1841 in: Tennessee (probably McMinn County) married: William Francis Cantrell date: circa 1865 in: Illinois (possibly Jackson County) relocated to Wright and Webster Counties in Missouri shortly before 1870. Where she lived out her life. Any information would be appreciated. ................................................... ................... ........ ..................... They were Scotish-Irish protestants, and the vast majority still live in southeastern US. Look forward to sharing Duggan data with others. So...please add me to the subscriber list. Subj: Duggan Diskette Date: 95-04-23 17:11:30 EDT From: THGH47A@prodigy.com From: THGH47A@prodigy.com To: lymandugg@aol.com Lyman: I now have your diskette installed, and all of your John Duggan's Register has been printed out. It appears your John Duggan (and most of his descendants) are Canadian. No tie is evident with my John Duggan's descendants, most of whom reside in the SE USA. Do you know from where your John Duggan came? Ireland, Ulster, Scotland, or England? On our 40th wedding anniversary last Nov. 20, some friends gave us a bottle of Duggan's Dew (a Scotch whiskey). There thus have been Duggans in Scotland making whiskey for many years. [I wonder if they pronounced it with a long or short "u"]. My mother always said the one-g folks used a long "u", and the two-g folks used the short "u"... But I've met exceptions. Thanks again for sharing. I hope you find my John Duggan's Register of interest. Happy genealogy! Bob Duggan (thgh47a@prodigy.com) ..........................................................end nr 10 condensed........
