Subj: Re: duggan family Date: 95-02-27 17:54:47 EST From: DUGGANIMS To: Lyman@duggan-family.org Hey Lyman, my full name is J. Duggan Collier. The Duggan coming from my mother's maiden name from my grandparents who came to this country from Ireland in the late teens early twenties. I think my grandfather is from Cavan or Lietrum(i'm probably way off on the spelling). And I know that either area is where the family name began because I visited some very very old homesteads that go back several hundred years and beyond. Let me know what you know. Through very good fortune, a distant cousin of mine has done much research on our family tree. My branch of the family comes from N. Carolina thru Georgia to Texas. Our earliest verifiable records are land transactions made in N. Carolina in the late 1600's. I use Family Tree Maker, which is not a strict genealogy program but it sufficies for me and the output options are great. I don't know of any relatives in Canada, but who knows? We may indeed be related. John Coleman Duggan, son of Jesse Edward Duggan, Jr. Screen Name: JohnD46819 Member Name: JOHN C. Subj: Family matters Date: 95-03-03 23:56:17 EST From: Rescue 4 To: Lyman@duggan-family.org Most pleased to hear from another cousin. I spent three hours on AOL attempting to navigate thru the genealogical forums with no sucess. At least I had no sucess discovering anything at all about the Duggans from Co.Cork.Could you help me out with this or point me in the right direction? Many thanks, Rescue 4 ( Jack Duggan ) Screen Name: Rescue 4 Member Name: JACK DUGGAN Location: NEW CITY, NY USA Sex: Male Computers: Leading Edge 386 SX Hobbies: Motorcycles, hunting, cooking, fast cars. I have also spent time in the genealogy forms with nothing to show but frustration. One should only have to type in "Duggan" and all the info should be available right! There are a lot of genealogy bulletin boards in the country and I intend to try some of them. I will report back here if I find anything of interest. My grand father was "John Champion Duggan" but everyone called him Jack. Have you heard the Irish folk song "Wild Colonial Boy"??? If you could send me any information on your family tree I will keep it on file in case it is of use to others. Hope to hear from you again soon.........................Lyman@duggan-family.organ ....................................................................... .. It's always good to hear from some other "Duggans." While born in New York City, I have been in California since the late 50's. Thanks again for making the contact. Kevin C. Duggan ....................................................................... ... Subj: Duggan Date: 95-03-09 06:43:05 EST From: JohnD230 To: Lyman@duggan-family.org File: CREST.GIF Lyman, Nice to hear from you! My name is John Edward Duggan from St. Charles, IL - Chicago Subarb. I'm always interested hearing about Duggans. I come from a large family - 11 Children in all however only four are 'Duggan' - my father (John Bernard Duggan) married my mother who was a widow with 7 children at the time. I'm the oldest of their four 'Duggan' children. Anyhow, you mentioned a book offer. I know of at least two. One came in the 'junk mail' from a William Duggan I think, but I didn't pay much attention to it for two reasons : 1) It seemed too commercial (not very personal); 2) I had already read a draft of a much more authentic Duggan book. The second book was more authentic to me primarily because it's information agreed with the little research my father had already done before he died. This book was being researched by a Robert E. Nichols, Jr. from Homewood, IL. It was at least 10 Chapters long with an epilogue covering the present day Duggans , and an appendix entitled 'An account of the Allied Heffernan Family'. I read the draft in 1992, at which time he expected it would not be ready for publishing until 1995 at the earliest. Speaking of the family crest or coat-of-arms, I have access to a scanner and have scanned in the crest (a half moon surrounded by 9 yellow flowers on a light-blue background with scroll beneath reading 'Virtute et Valore'). I would be happy to send it to you in any form - you'll just need to educate me on how to send a graphic file via e-mail, or how to upload such that you can reach it. I'm interested in the 1985 phone listing, and the family tree and shareware program for keeping it up. John Edward Duggan ....................... Dear John, Many thanks for your nice letter and yes I got the ".gif" file and played it on "2-show". It came out perfect...thanks again. Your crest is quite different from the one I have. I should send you mine and have you scan it so all our cousins can see it. I wonder how many Duggan crests there are? Thanks for your comments on the "book offers". Now you will have to do a book review for us when the new one comes out. I will pin your letter and my reply to the next OAL Duggan Newsletter. Anyone who wants to see the crest will have to have a viewer program but there are a lot of free ones out there. They can ask either one of us for the "gif" file of the crest. "John" appears to be the most popular Duggan name that I have seen to date. My grandfather was a John but everyone called him Jack as in "The Wild Colonial Boy". If you would like me to look some one up in my Duggan phone book just let me know. The book was written in 1984 and shows Edward J Duggan on 364 Iris Lane...is that you? It also shows an Edward J Duggan in Jerseyville, Ill. This book is produced by Halburt's and is really just compiled from the usa phone books and sort of a rip off. Send me your mailing address and I will mail you the program "Brothers Keeper" and the Duggan files that I have..Hope you can add your family and send me your files too I look forward to hearing from you again soon, Lyman Keir Duggan ..........................................................end...nr 1
