Lyman:
I read your first 16 issues of the newsletter and did not find anything
about my family. Didn't go any further as it took so very long and
tied up
our telephone line. My computer is old, handed down from my son, to
grandson to me. I use it mainly for writing e-mail and inputting
data
into my Family Origins genealogy program. I would appreciate
it if you
would add this to your Dugan-Duggan Newsletter in case someone knows
about
my line. Here's what little I know.
Daniel Dugan b. c1750 New Jersey. Married a Miss Kinny.
Children:
Michael, William Patrick, Margaret (married Alexis Simmons),
and
Elizabeth (married Powell Lyons).
Believe William is my g-g-g-g-g-grandfather b. 1785 in Northumberland
Co., PA. He married Charity Price and children are: Harriet,
Liza, Jane
(my g-g-g-g-grandmother), William, Jr., Mary, John (soldier), and Daniel.
It is believed that Daniell b. 1750 had two other wives and several
more
children. If you know of anyone who might have information about
any of

Hi! I just discovered your website, and it's very interesting. My maiden name is Dugan. I have Family Tree Maker software and have put down everything I know about my family and have hit a dead end. My great-grandfather, Robert Irvin Dugan, was botn in 1847 in Saint John, New Brunswick. He had three sons, my grandfather, Irvin Tostevin Dugan, Maurice Kerrborn Dugan and Duane Francis Dugan, all born in St. Paul, MN.
I believe Tostevin and Kerrborn must have been names from prior
generations of either my grandfather or grandmothers' families.
Irvin (my grandfather),
married Suemerrille Willes and had four children, Richard,
Harold (my father), Ruth and Duane. He also had a child, Robert Yale
Dugan, who died as an
infant.
I'd be interested in your newsletter or any other information you may have.

Lyman,
I've attached 2 documents, duggan1.txt & duggan2.txt. The
first one is a
list of all those with the Duggan
surname in my database. The second one
is a descendent
list of Mary Duggan, who was married to my gg grandfather,
Robert K. Sibley.
I just received my copy of _The Sibley Family in America_ and haven't
updated all my information, so you'll see a lot of "WFT est" dates.
There
are other details from the book that I haven't added yet; for instance
Robert K. Sibley was killed at the battle of Mansfield, LA during the
Civil War.
I have so many dates & places on the Sibleys, that I would really
like to
have stories. Such as why they moved from one state to another,
what was
an ordinary day for them, etc.

It's a long story! My Greatgrandfather Joseph Peter Dugan,1838-1921
immigrated in 1850. We think from Armagh, but he may have come
through
Canada. Have found no record to prove or disprove either (kinda
like a
contribution to the DNC!) The name was spelled Duggan on the 1880 New
York
City Census and listed wife Rose, son John, niece Jennie, and boarder
Patrick. John, 1873-1924, is my grandfather who added the "O".
I know a
great deal about him from my aunt (but I still think it's probably
true!)
I have Joseph's naturalization (Troy, NY 1863), Civil War service (NY
69th
Inf) and pension documents. Nothing ties him to a specific location
in
the Old Country. I think the key will be this Jennie(b. abt 1861
in IRE)
and Patrick (I think neice means there are brothers or sisters).
My dad
Joseph John Dougan, 1907-1968 (actually his birth certificate said
DUGAN)
was born in the Bronx and died in Newark, NJ. I know this has
nothing to
do with your Dougan's, but if you stumble across anything that might
help
me out, let me know. If you need any NY Census stuff, I can look
it up
for you. We have all the NY, NJ, PA and New England Census records
in the
public library in Syracuse. There now you have it!

My name is Jeff Duggan, from Melbourne Australia.
I am interested in traceing my family history. My farther Ron Duggan
has
spent many years in laying out a family tree. My interest in Family
history probably commenced in 1965. It followed discussions at the
funeral
of a family member. I was prompted by the relization that the members
of
that generation were fast leaving us, with the consequent loss of family
history.
The early enthusiam when information was readily available gradually
warned as investigations became more difficult.( A little history
follows)
Richard Duggan, born 30 October 1819, and Elizabeth Raymond, born 12
October 1826,were married on the 8th June 1845 at the English
Independant Chapel In Merthyr Tydfil,Wales. The marriage certificate
showed that Richard was a Batchelor, miner and lived in Georgetown,
(part of Merthyr.) His farther was Richard Duggan a farmer. It also
showed that Elizabeth Raymond was a spinster, a servant and that her
farther was William Raymond, a miner. Richard migrated to Australia
in a
ship, (White Star) which left Livepool, England on 22 June 1857 and
arrived in Melbourne on 4th September 1857. Elizabeth followed almost
3
years later on the 5th April 1860 aboard the Yong America. She arrived
in
Melbourne 2 July 1860 and was accompanied by their sons Richard 11
years,
Thomas 9 years, and Francis 6 years. (Copies of Ships manifests are
available.) Other children William born 1846, Margarat born 1850, and
Mary
Jane born1856 apparently died before Richard sailed in 1857.
There were to be twelve children of the marriage, of whom six died
shortly after birth, or at a very young age. Living conditions including
sanitation were very poor for working class people and there was a
lot of
sickness which could have contributed to the early deaths.
Richard died at Chewton Victoria 16 December 1875 aged 56 years.
Thomas Duggan, Richards son (My Great grandfarther ) married Agnes Mc
Cance on 30th December 1873 at Chewton. During the ensuring twenty
years ,
Agnes had twelve children. she died on 6th August 1893, aged just under
43
years, and one week after the birth of her twelfth child.
I trust this information may be of interest, and look forward to further
contact with others interested in family history. If any one could

Many thanks for your nice email.
I am going to forward it to Lee Sudsbury in NB who you probably
remember...Alma's brother. He will find interest I am sure.
I am also sending copy to Walter Duggan's son David in Halifax in hopes
that he can pass this along and that Walter can come into the conversation
too. Walter is still living in Summerside.
Our Grandfather of course was John Duggan and his father was Joseph
from Spring Valley and Joseph's father was also a John and he is the
one
that is giving me the problems. Where did he come from etc. Who was
his
wife. How many childern? All we know about is Joseph.
I did find a John Duggan in one of the census. He was in his 90's and
living with a man named Tuplin. I also found a John Duggan who took
out a
pub licence after he was fined for serving with out a licence.
Much of
this was several years ago and my memory has faded some of the facts.
I
couldnt say that they were the same man at the time.
I have correspondence with Robert Adams and in fact I have owed him
a
letter for quite some time. My business went into emergency gear a
little
over a year ago and there has not been time for much else since. I
just
manage to keep the newsletter going.
There appear to be 2 Duggan families but perhaps they are just the
Catholic-Protestant split up that you mention.
If you would like a copy of my data base on floppy, I will be happy
to send it to you. I use the Genealogy program "Brothers Keeper"
Please keep me in mind if you have any more information to share.
Your notes are very interesting and will stay in the family archives.

Hello Lyman,
My name is Walter Clark, and I live in Kensington. I am Don Clark's
son,
and a cousin of Keir's. He sent me a copy of one of your
Emails, and
asked if I knew much about John Duggan. I had done some
work on the
family back in the late 1970's, much of which was used in the
Irishtown
History. I have never been able to determine who John Duggan's
father
was, although I favoured Joseph Duggan as a good possibility.
I can't
tell you why at this time, because I haven't looked at my Duggan
notes
for years. It is quite likely is that John is a descendant
of Patrick
Duggan, who came to Princetown in the late 1700's. What
his line of
descent is of course is a little harder to piece together.
I was speaking to Robert Adams about a year or more ago, and he
had
planned to dig further into the Duggans. Spoke to him again
this fall
though, and it seems that he has gotten of genealogy for the
time being.
I believe you know Robert. He descends from Patrick Duggan,
the son of
the first Patrick Duggan.
With a name like Patrick Duggan, I think there is a pretty good
chance
that he came out from Ireland. Our family is of course
Protestant, but
you may have heard the story of how a number of families left
the
Catholic church when they closed the church that had been out
in Park
Corner by the Lake of Shining Waters. When they were informed
that they
would have to go to Indian River for church, they refused and
switched
to the Anglican Church. The Murphys of Sea View and the
Duggan family
were two of the three families that I have heard about who were
suppose
to have made this change. More than this, I can't tell
you, in fact,
you mentioned running across two different John Duggans - I have
only
ever come across the one.
I realize that I haven't been of much help, but I thought I would
write
and say, hello, at least. I had run across your home page
on the
Duggans at one point and was shocked. Couldn't understand
who this
American was who knew so much about our family here on The Island.
Later
ran into both Robert Adams, and your cousin, Alma, and they both
informed me as to who you were.
Anyway, best of luck in your research and should I come across
anything
of interest I will let you know. I am working on so many
different
projects at this time though, I don't really know if I can get
back into
the Duggans.

Hi Chad, I just pulled some Duggan newsletters and found your Email

Lyman in May of 97. I too, have Tipperary Duggan relatives, but
I'm not
sure where in Tipperary. My gg grandfather was Dennis Duggan
(Dugan),
family used both spellings of name, born 6-4-1797 to Dennis and Mary
Duggan. He married Mary Ryan, born 2-2-1819 to T. Ryan and M.
Kennedy.
Mary arrived in U.S. in 1850, probably NY, and I do not know when Dennis
arrived. They may have been married in U.S. rather than Ireland
since
earliest child I know of was born in 1852 in NY. In 1867, they
moved to
Owatonna, Minnesota where Dennis was a farmer. Their children
(at least
the ones I'm aware of) were William, Thomas, James, Bridget, Michael,
Jerome, Kate, and Johanna. Please let me know if any of these
names sound
familiar.

Dear Lyman,
My name is Joseph P. Duggan. My sister ( Kate Duggan Fly, Traverse
City
M.I.) told me about your page and suggested I take a look at it. I
find it
quite intresting but had trouble finding information that reflected
what I
found on a recent trip to Ireland. I was searching my entire family
history so my time allotment for the Duggans was small.I used the services
of the Births, Deaths and Marriges located in Skibbereen, Co. Cork.
I
contacted a gentelman named Shamus Ryan tel.028-21299. He told me that
my
grandfather John Duggan was born in the parish of Ross Carbery, in
the
townland of Tullineasky. His birthcertificate had no father on the
record.
His mother was Bridget Duggan. Mr. Ryan then looked further for any
Bridget Duggan born about tweenty years before in the same townland.
He
found a girl born on Jan. 26, 1873 to John Duggan and Ellen Hurley.
That
was all the information that he could provide. But, I went down to
a pub
in Tullineasky called the Pike Bar and found out that the principle
of the
national school had a book with Michael Collins name in it. My grandfather
was born in July 1892, about two miles from Collins house and they
attended the same school at lisavaird. I also talked to a John Duggan
in
Clonikilty and he told me of several families of Duggans in the area.
The
Duggans used to live in a townland named ardfield, but they just recently
died out. The second set of Duggans live in Cashbliskey and there are
still several families living there. I'm new at this game, and I learned
a
lot in just two days in Ireland, but not all the information pertains
to
my Duggans. Maybe in the future you could post a leads board.
If you have
any suggestions for finding more information I would like your advice.P.P.

This is not my family even though there are similiar names in it. There

I email to over 200 people every week, so it is hard for me to remember
