Mike,
It's great to have you
with us...I will send the disk to you this week! Could you give us the
descendants of Tabitha? Mike....I just finished addressing your disk...it
will be in Thursday's mail...I checked the archives and found lots of Graves
but unfortunately most had Duggan's in them! I came up with a Zac Duggan
and no Tabitha...as the data base grows, contact will be made. We look
forward to seeing your family list and helping you in any way we can.

Lyman,
I don't recall if you have ever passed along
my family background. As you can see, I'm into a real slow go time and
am looking for any other input.Searching for Grandfather Cornelius
V. Duggan, b Co Donegal,1865. To USA on SS Bolivia fm Moville 18Apr
1884- NYC 30 April 1884. Married Mary Dennehy 1890-1900,unk loc. In StL
1900 census to d 1906. Looking for townland in Co DON and Marr lic in USA.
Have years of searching via Family History Library etc. Have used Hsehldrs
for limited Catholic Church record Search. Have found a family in Tirlin
which has a Cornelius about the right time, but nothing else is familiar
about them. The father of the Tirlin family was also Cornelius and the
mother was Nancy Carr. I have a list of the other children if it is of
use to anyone. Am plng search all existing Catholic Church records for
Co. Don. Have reviewed many major city directories to try to trace his
movements in USA with limited success. Could use a bolt out of the blue/etc.
I have also done a search of NYC passenger records for year 1883 and Jan
thru April 1884 and recorded all the Duggan, Dugan in them with boat name
and date if this is of any help to anyone. As far as I know there is no
index for these ships. Thanks for any input.
Jim

Jim,
I did find a few tid-bits
that I emailed to you...probably not what you were looking for..Is all
that data written down or on disk? If it is on disk, could you copy it
to me by floppy? If it is written, could you send me photo copies for the
archives? It sounds like you have really done your homework and I hope
that you will share with us.

Cousin Lyman,
Wow. You've organized quite a thing here. I'll
add my own tidbit to the pot. Perhaps it will help piece things together.
I've been been searching for connections in the family line for some time
now! My great grandfather was Cornelius Duggan of
Holbrook, MA. He married a woman who's maiden name was Kelly (but
no one still alive in the family knows her first name). Together, they
issued the following: Lawrence, Mary, John, Joseph, and Wilfred (he was
my grandfather). Wilfred (nicknamed 'C.B.') married one Brigette Connolly,
and together they issued: Wilfred Jr., John (my father), Margaret, Paul,
Daniel, and Mary.
Lyman, I enjoyed the newsletter, and am preparing
to snail mail it to the rest of my brood. I'm glad you spotted me on the
AOL, and look forward to the next one! I have a question: How many variations
are there, and what are they, on the Duggan name? So far, I know there
is Duggan, Dugan, Duggan's, Dugan's, Dougan....Diggin? Any others? Slan,
Michael Patrick Duggan

I will send you what I have on two different
Duggan Families and possibly a third. (I don't know if the third is part
of the other two) I'm hopeful that some of the other cousins can add in
and fill some of the blanks. I've been struggling and each time I have
to do a great deal more digging for little or no information.. The passenger
info I have is handwritten notes as is the Duggan family info. I have my
own computer files for all my related families, but haven separated the
Duggan ones out. The best way with the passenger info might be to have
someone email me to look for some in the time period. Right now I can't
put my hands on the notebook, so I am a little upset since it contains
much other information. Take care.
Jim

Looking forward to putting
your data in the newsletter and in the archives...so much work, I hope
you can find it okay.

Subject: Duggan Newsletter
G'day Lyman.
Happy New Year to you and all the cousins. I
hope that you enjoyed your sail. Thank you for all the back issues of the
newsletter, the William.doc and the gedcom file that you sent me. I have
searched all of them ... but alas ... no connections ...yet. It will be
a couple more months before I have all my info on disk. I will send you
a copy then. By the way, your cousin Dave contacted me and our daughters
have subsequently exchanged their first e-mail. I noticed in some of the
newsletters that you were interested in obtaining The words to "The Wild
Colonial Boy". Well... a quick look in the local library and I found 6
versions of the tune plus a couple of variations on the lyrics. One version
has a bloke by the name of Jack Doolan as the wild colonial boy; in another,
a guy called Jack Donahue; with a third using the correct name Jack Duggan...
of course. So without further ado, here are the words (well one version
at least):
There was a wild colonial
boy, Jack Duggan (Doolan / Donahue) was his name,
Of poor but honest parents
he was born in Castlemaine.
He was his father's only
hope, his mother's pride and joy,
And dearly did his parents
love the wild colonial boy.
Chorus
Then, come all me hearties,
we'll range the mountain side;
Together we will plunder,
together we will ride.
We'll scour along the
valleys and gallop o'er the plains,
We scorn to live in slavery
bowed down with iron chains.
In 'sixty-one this daring
youth commenced his wild career;
With a heart that knew
now danger, no foeman did he fear;
He stuck up the Beechworth
mail coach and robbed Judge MacEvoy
Who trembled and gave
up his gold to the wild colonial boy.
He bade the judge good
morning, and told him to beware,
That he'd never rob a
hearty chap who acted on the square;
And never to rob a mother
of her son and only joy,
Or else you may turn outlaw
like the wild colonial boy.
One day as he was riding
the mountain side along,
A-listening to the little
birds their pleasant laughing song.
Three mounted troopers
came in view, Kelly, Davis and Fitzroy,
They thought that they
would capture him, the wild colonial boy.
"Surrender now, Jack Duggan,
you see there's three to one,
Surrender now, Jack Duggan,
you daring highwayman!"
Jack drew a pistol from
his belt and spun it like a toy,
"I'll fight but I won't
surrender," said the wild colonial boy.
He fired at trooper Kelly
and brought him to the ground,
And in return from Davis
received a mortal wound.
All shattered through
the jaws he lay still firing at Fitzroy,
And that's the way they
captured him, the wild colonial boy.
Note:
(a) There is another Australian Bush Ballard
titled "Bold Jack Donahue", in which some of the lines are the same as
those found in The Wild Colonial Boy.
(b) As far as I can ascertain, there is no record
in Australia of a bushranger named Jack Duggan or Jack Doolan. There was
one named Jack Donahue.
(c) Beechworth was a major gold mining town
last century and is located approx 50km east of where I am.
(d) There was a Judge named MacEvoy.
Do any of the cousins have other versions. This
could be the beginnings of a Wild Colonial Boy song book... the Duggan
e-mail edition.
While I'm in this sharing mood, here are a few
good internet sites that I have found on my recent travels:

(Provides
general info. Access to their genealogy data is via contribution of gedcom
files).

http://www.nics.gov.uk/pubsec/proni/pro-home.htm
National Archives of Ireland: http://147.252.133.152/nat-arch/genealogy.html

Dear Sir or Madam,
My uncle and I are doing a family history study.
Although we are studying somewhat individually, we are sharing information.
My father has dug through his files and found "Ayr, Ireland" written
down. What I would like to know is, is there actually a place or county
called Ayr in Ireland? If so, could you help me find some web pages or
mailing addresses that would help me in finding out if this is where the
Duggan/Murry families originated from? I'm looking for information from
about 150 years ago, give or take 20 years. I am 5th or 6th generation
Irish Canadian, and I am unsure how far back that takes me.
I appreciate and thank-you for any help you
could give me.
Sincerely,
Sharon Schlueter

Hi Lyman
Help me out here. I have subscribed to your
Duggan Newsletter for a patron of our local Family History Center who is
computer illiterate. He is thrilled! He has given me names to submit for
your archives, which I will do when I get it all sorted out. In the meanwhile,
he has asked that I get your archive disk files. How do I do this? Your
newsletter gives the impression that you will just mail these out upon

pay the costs.
Please let me know how to proceed. And thanks

In 1817, Denis Duggan and Judith Guiry
